The Irish rapper was among dozen of runners who took part in the charity run yesterday in Dublin.
Kneecap organised the 10km charity run in aid of charity, Naoise Ó Cairealláin who goes by the stage name Moglaí Bap led runners to the President’s official residence, Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park. The run began at the home of Bohemians FC, Dollymount Park and was all in aid of the Gaza Food and Play project.
Kneecap performed in the 3 Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Moglaí Bap has been running 10km in every city that they perform gigs in to raise funds for Gaza.
It has been reported that more than 200 runners held Palestine flags and shouted "Free Palestine" as they ran in the rain. The runners ran through a gap in the hedge surrounding the Presidents residence and cheered at President Catherine Connolly as she cheered on the runners.
Ms Connoly told Moglaí Bap in Irish to keep going to which he thanked her and said "Welcome to the Áras."
The Kneecap rapper was joined by his brother Ainle, for the charity event. “Naoise started doing these runs last year to support a project that we started in Gaza in response to the genocide,” Ainle said before the event started.
Ainle is the founder and director of ACLAÍ Palestine, a community gym in the West Bank. He established the gym in the Aida refugee camp as a bridge between Ireland and Palestine. He visted the Aida refugee camp in August, which is located near Bethlehem and plans to return in January according to the Irish Times.
Ainle is also involved in the Gaza food and play project, funds raised on Wednesday are set to go towards the project.
“When the occupation restricted all goods coming in, the food was just impossible to get so we diverted the project a bit to circus and cultural workshops for kids that were displaced around different parts of the strip,” Ainle said.
The 10km charity run took place not long before Greta Thunberg visited Áras an Uachtaráin for a courtesy meeting with Ms Connolly. The visit was facilitated by Bohemians FC.
The visit took place ahead of a huge event organised by Bohemians FC that is set to take place in Dolymount Park this evening. The football club are hosting an event called An Evening of Words and Songs for Gaza. Tickets are €11.00 each with all proceeds going towards support for Grassroots Winter Aid for families in Gaza.
