The Scottish star, who stepped back from music in 2023 to focus on managing the impact of his Tourette’s, made his comeback in June with a surprise appearance at Glastonbury. Saturday night in Sheffield, though, was the big one — the first headline show of his new run of gigs.
Addressing the crowd, the 28-year-old was open about how much it all meant: “It’s quite overwhelming after two years away, but it genuinely means the world. I’m still humbled this is even a possibility for me.”
He later echoed those feelings on social media, thanking fans for “making it so special” and promising plenty more to come. And there will be — the tour continues with another show in Sheffield before stops in Aberdeen, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Birmingham.
Irish fans don’t have long to wait either. Capaldi will take over Dublin’s 3Arena on September 29 and 30, his only Irish dates this year. It’s been a while since he’s played here, but he’s clearly fond of the place — just last week he was spotted enjoying a pint in The Storyteller, a Dublin pub, alongside Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C - see below.
For someone who once worried whether he’d make it back to the stage, Capaldi’s return has been greeted with huge affection. Judging by the cheers in Sheffield, fans are more than ready to have him back.
