Marcus Mumford has revealed that he wrote the new Mumford And Sons track, Alley Cat in a prison.
This happened after the singer did volunteering work in jail during the Covid-19 pandemic, where he worked with inmates who helped him to write a new song for the band's album, Prizefighter. The album which arrived on February 20, was co written by The National's Aaron Dessner at his Long Pond Studio in upstate New York.
In a recent interview with The Big Issue magazine, Mumford said: "Alley Cat, I wrote in a prison actually. I go into prison and do poetry workshops and that came out of one of those sessions with the lads. Which I felt slightly conflicted about to start with"..
Mumford also said that he was inspired to do volunteering work in jail due to his "love of local communities".
"I like being present in the place where you live", he added. "If all of us were defined by the worst thing we ever did, we’d all be f***ed".
The singer also feels that people should have more "grace" for each other in life.
"I believe in grace, I believe in mercy, I believe in responsibility, choices, consequences, of course. I’m not a libertarian of that kind", he added. "But at the same time I just don’t think we have enough grace for each other".
In other news, Mumford And Sons also announced a huge show at Dublin's Marlay Park for this Summer.
The show will take place on July 5, with the band being supported by special guests, The War on Drugs. It is also part of a number of shows from a huge tour including Groningen, Rome, Berlin, and a big hometown show at London’s Hyde Park as part of the BST series.
