Today, U2 celebrated their 50th anniversary in some style, as they returned to where it all started for Bono and co, at Mount Temple Comprehensive School.
The band returned to the school, exactly 50 years to the day that Larry Mullen Jr placed a handwritten note, 'Drummer Seeks Musicians To Form Band' on the noticeboard of the Northside Dublin School in September 1976. Here is a photo of the band performing at that very show 50 years earlier.

Half a century later, the band delivered a shock performance to 1,000 students and staff close to the exact same spot they first performed 50 years earlier, with their live set list including their maiden single, 'Out Of Control', as well as music from their upcoming album, Carnaval De Luz.

U2 also delivered a live performance of 'One', where they were joined on stage by 32 string musicians, including Mary McCollam, Johnathan Wilson, Hilary Minchin, Aoibhinn McGovern, Sophie McGrath, Kian Lee, Charlie Kealey, Éabha Flanagan, Erin Maginn, Béibhín Galldubh, Diare Dunne, Andrii Sokotniuk, Caragh Kenny O'Sullivan, Ruben Moore, Zara Doyle, Kieu Conroy, Rían Cleary, Liam Hunka, Asia Barker, Ryan Martin, Elidh Jackson, Matthias Schatzmann, Aisling McCartin, Lauren Matthews, Sarah Larkin, Lucy Carroll, Aoibhinn Ní Dhomhnaill, Catriona McKenna, Eppie O'Meara, Samuel Doyle, Shannon Murphy, Eva Doyle, and Éabha Morrow.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of U2, the Central Bank of Ireland also launched a €2 commemorative coin, which was unveiled showing an image of all U2 bandmembers, including Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr, designed by Irish artist, Shaughin McGrath. More on this here.
