Fans of Zayn Malik have been left frustrated and disappointed after the former One Direction star cancelled a UK appearance at the last minute due to illness.

The singer had been scheduled to host a special one-off event at Banquet Records, where he was due to perform, take part in a Q&A and preview new material. However, the event was called off the night before it was set to take place.

In a statement shared on social media, Banquet Records confirmed the postponement, writing: “Gutted to say Monday's ZAYN events are postponed due to illness - we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. We'll be back to ticket holders later in the coming week. Thanks for your understanding and sorry again for the disappointment.”

The venue also shared a message from Malik himself, which read: “I'm sorry but unfortunately I am sick and I won't be able to make it to the UK this week as planned. We're already in the process of trying to reschedule the Banquet Q&A, and will be sharing new dates soon. Working on getting each of your info as well to send you something. Thank you for understanding and continued love and support. Big love xx Zayn.”

The event had been billed as a unique opportunity for fans to hear tracks from his upcoming album KONNAKOL ahead of release, alongside a live Q&A session and exclusive footage. Attendees were also set to take part in a large group photo, which would later be printed as a souvenir poster.

Following the announcement, many fans took to social media to express their frustration, particularly those who had travelled long distances for the event.

One wrote: “We love him and we respect him. But this is not ok. Cancelling something the night before considering some of us spent more than 200€ on plane/hotel/trains. Something needs to be done. It’s not only about a refund. Something else need to be done. It’s unacceptable.”

Another said: “Traveling for an other country, booking hotel , EVERYTHING FOR NOTHING I WANT TO DIE. Can you give back the money from our booking/travelling ??? Please.”

A third added: “Well so gonna refund for my flights?”

Others questioned how the rescheduling would work, particularly with the album’s release approaching. One fan wrote: “What happens if you guys can’t reschedule before the album comes out then you can’t really do the ‘album playback’ part of the event?”

Another commented: “Imagine coming from Brazil to this event and traveling kilometers away from home, and then, one day before the event, finding out it was rescheduled and you don’t know if you’ll still be in London on the new date. yeah… that’s me.”

While organisers have confirmed the event will be rescheduled, no new date has yet been announced.
