Emergency services have been stood down overnight following a wildfire on Slievenamon in Co Tipperary.
After being stood down for crew safety, emergency services have said they are continuing to closely monitor the situation after several units had attended the area, including one from Clonmel who arrived at the scene from the Ballypatrick side of the mountain just before 8.30am.
It was also confirmed that another unit from Carrick-on-Suir had assisted in this operation, and fire services are seeking air support in this operation.
According to the services, the fire's rate of spread is expected to reduce overnight as temperatures fall. Residential properties are also not expected to be affected. This comes after plumes of smoke were seen around the area.
Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service have said in a statement that "the decision to stand down firefighting operations was made due to the challenges posed by darkness, difficult terrain, and limited scope for effective intervention" (quotes according to RTÉ).
They added: "Emergency services will maintain a presence in the area throughout the night to monitor the situation and respond as necessary".
Anyone within the vicinity has been advise to avoid the immediate area where possible and to follow any directions issued by emergency services.
Elsewhere, Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service have said that they wanted to take this opportunity to remind all landowners, visitors and members of the public to take extreme caution during the ongoing period of warm and dry weather.
Their statement added: "The public is urged not to light fires or barbecues in or near forests, grasslands or upland areas and to report any signs of fire immediately to the emergency services".
Over the last number of days, emergency services have been forced to tackle a number of wildfires across the country, including a blaze in Killarney National Park last Tuesday, as well as another fire near Milltownpass in Co Westmeath, which led to a tempoary closure of a section of the M6 motorway.
