Fianna Fáil TD, Malcolm Byrne has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The TD confirmed in a statement that he was travelling from his hotel to Dublin Airport, before being stopped at a mandatory Galway checkpoint in the city centre. He said that he is giving the Gardaí his full co-operation, and that he immediately informed his political party of his arrest.
Fianna Fáil has confirmed Mr Byrne's arrest on suspicion of drink driving.
They have also added that the investigation is ongoing that that he is "cooperating fully with An Garda Síochána, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time".
