Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

This was confirmed by the US politician's office, who said that Mr Biden has been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of cancer, which has spread to the bones. This happened after the 82 year old began to experience urinary problems, before a prostate nodule was found.

The former president's office have also said that he is reviewing options.

The statement read: "While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians".

Questions were raised over Mr Biden's health last year, following a disastrous debate with Donald Trump last July, with people raising concerns of his decline and cognitive abilities.

Kamala Harris, Joe Biden's vice president during his time in office, and who stepped in as a Democrat nominee, after Mr Biden dropped out of last year's election, had this to say.

"Joe is a fighter", Mrs Harris stated. "I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery".

Elsewhere, current US President Donald Trump who has long ridiculed Biden over his cognitive issues, offered his best wishes to the Biden family at this difficult time.

"We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery", Mr Trump wrote on his Truth social, referring to Joe's wife, Jill Biden.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men, with reports saying that one in eight men in the US are diagnosed with the illness in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. While it remains highly treatable if detected early, the organisation have stated that it remains the second leading cause of cancer death in men.
