The funeral mass for the family who tragically died following an arson attack at their home in Waterford, is to take place this afternoon.

This comes after Philip and Kim English, along with their children, 12 year old Callum, and nine year old Jayden died following an arson attack at their home in the Birchwood Estate in Waterford last week, which also saw two other children, aged 14 and six remain in a critical condition at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin.

The funeral will take place at the Sacred Heart Church in Waterford city, with Parish Priest, Fr Gerry Chestnutt leading the congregation, while Bishop for Waterford and Lismore Alpohonsus Cullinane are also expected to attend.

President Catherine Connolly is to be represented by her aid-de-camp, while Chief Whip Mary Butler and Minister of State John Cummins are to be the Government's representatives at the service.

Prior to this, hundreds of people also paid their respects at the Sacred Heart Church at the reposal of Kim, Philip, Callum and Jayden. The Folly was silent as four hearses arrived with four coffins to the church.

Elsewhere, a guard of honour was also provided by members of local soccer club, Johnville FC, which Callum played for the past five years, which saw him win a league title as part of their under 11 team.

The members of the English family will also be laid to rest in Kilbarry Cemetery.

Over the weekend, two people appeared in court, charged in connection with the arson attack on the English family, charged with Section 4 assault, causing serious harm against two individuals who cannot be named for legal reasons and criminal damage. More on this here.
