Gardaí have issued a new appeal for information about the murder of a man found in Co Armagh in 1986.
This comes after the body of Terence 'Terry' McKeever were found near the Mullaghduff Bridge, Cullyhanna on 16 June 1986. He was 30 years old at the time, working as a managing director of a family electrical contracting business which was based both north and south of the border.
The company worked in large contract works both north and south of the border, including army barracks, garda and RUC stations.
His remains were discovered near Mullaghduff Bridge, almost 25 metres into Northern Ireland on that day or the following day (June 17). His car was found in Carnagh, Co Armagh.
It is believed that Mr McKeever was abducted and shot dead, after leaving his home at Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge in a champagne coloured BMW 735i, which had a registration: FIB 735. He left his home at 6.50am on the day in question and it is believed he had been travelling north along the N2 from Dublin.
Reports have suggested that he was abducted around the Monaghan/Armagh border area, or somewhere during his intended route which would have included the N2 from Dublin, passing through, Slane, Ardee, Monaghan and heading through Armagh town.
Gardaí believe that a blue Toyota Liteace van with stolen number plates UZY 125, was the vehicle used in the murder of Mr McKeever. It was found abandoned on the N52 at Mapastown, Ardee, Co Louth. It had been stolen in Dundalk on 21 May 1986.
In a statement, Gardaí issued a fresh appeal for anyone with information particularly about this fan to come forward.
“Do you have any information that may assist with the investigation?", they said. “With the passage of time, some person may now be in a position to provide information to investigating Gardaí that they could not provide at the time, or maybe some person who did provide information at the time may be now in a position to provide further information".
“Gardaí encourage anyone who they may or may not have spoken to previously, to come forward", they continued.
“Investigating Gardaí are particularly interested in information on the following:
“Terence McKeever’s movements on the morning of 16th June 1986".
“The theft and storage of a blue Toyota LiteAce van registration number 7533 KI (or the stolen registration number UZY 125 between 21st May 1986 and 18th June 1986.
“The movements of Mr McKeever’s champagne-coloured BMW 735i (registration FIB 735, which was subsequently found at Carnagh, Co Armagh on 17th June 1986).
“Anyone with information can contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station".
