The University have stated that Katie Taylor "will go down in history as one of the most important women athletes of all time." TCD also acknowledged that the boxer is one of the most important figures in both Irish sports and women's sport globally.
Katie received the degree alongside some of Ireland's most inspiring people today. The group consisted of barrister Helena Kennedy, writer Colm Tóibín, singer Sharon Shannon, and human rights activist Sister Helen Prejean.
Katie Taylor, Baroness Helena Kennedy, and Sister Helen Prejean each received a Doctor in Laws for their impact on law, politics and human rights.
The university praised both Helena and Sister Helen for their work abroad.
Sister Helen who is an anti-death Penalty activist in the US who "works tirelessly, giving talks across the USA and beyond, teaching classes, strategising and coordinating with human rights organisations, visiting people on death row and writing".
It was Further stated that Ms Kennedy "has had a quite extraordinary impact on law, politics and policy in the UK and beyond".
Colm Tóibín and Sharon Shannon each received honourary degrees in Literature for their impactful work in both Irish culture and traditional impact.
Colm Tóibín was described as "one of Irelands most prolific writers," and Sharon Shannon was praised for the "contribution," she had made to traditional music.
