It has been confirmed that King Charles' visit is set to go ahead today after the shooting on Saturday night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC.
Trump commented on the visit in an interview on CBS News' 60 Minutes programme. "I think it's great; he'll be very safe. The White House grounds are very safe," Trump said.
Trump also stated that according to authorities there were no additional threats to himself or other officials. Todd Blanche, the acting attorney general said that he believed the shooting was targeting the president and administration officials.
Buckingham Palace stated that King Charles and Queen Camilla's visit to the US White House will go ahead "as planned," despite the shooting raising concerns of safety.
A statement released yesterday said that the decision was made "after discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day".
In the statement announcing that the visit will now go ahead, the Palace said that the King and Queen were "most grateful to all those who have worked at pace" and "looking forward to the visit getting under way tomorrow".
Senior government minister Darren Jones told the BBC yesterday morning that the Kings visit would have "appropriate security in place in relation to the risk". The King and Queen's visit already had quite tight security-now it will be even more thorough. Although it is not yet clear what adjustments have been made.
As a result of the shooting at the White House, one secret service agent was shot, but was saved by their bullet proof vest. No other persons were harmed from the shooting.
31-year-old Cole Allen, from Torrance, California is expected to appear in court today, he is the main suspect for the shooting. Blanche has stated that the investigation is quite preliminary and that law enforcements were investigating the suspect by speaking to people who knew him. He also added that the suspect is not co-operating with the investigators.
