A man and a woman have been charged in connection with the recent arson attack which claimed the lives of a family in Waterford this week.

The fire led to the deaths of Philip English, his wife Kim English, and their children Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9.

At Clonmel District Court, Cian Stacey, aged 21 and of no fixed abode, and Jessica Dalton, 31 with an address in Waterford City, appeared, charged with Section 4 assault, causing serious harm against two individuals who cannot be named for legal reasons and criminal damage.

Speaking in court, Detective Sergeant, Brian O'Callaghan from Waterford Garda Station, gave evidence regarding Cian Stacey's arrest, saying that he did not make any replay when the charges were brought against him. O'Callaghan's colleague, Detective Sergeant Michael Burke, also of Waterford Garda Station, said for Jessica Dalton's arrest, charge and caution, she also made no reply when the charges were put to her.

The pair's defence solicitor, Ciarán Murphy said that no application for bail had been made regarding either case.
