A man has died following a house fire in Frenchpark, Co Roscommon.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze shortly before 7pm on Tuesday evening after reports of a fire at a house in a residential estate. Fire crews arrived on the scene and managed to extinguish the flames, but sadly discovered the body of a man inside the property.
His remains have been taken to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The scene has been sealed off and is currently undergoing a technical examination as Gardaí work to determine the cause of the fire. Witnesses in the area reported hearing an explosion shortly before the fire broke out, but the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Investigations are ongoing.
