A man in his 60s has died following a two-vehicle crash on the N4 near Ballinalack, Co. Westmeath on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 4.20pm and involved two cars. Emergency services rushed to the scene and the road was closed to allow for a forensic collision investigation.
The male driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar, where he was later pronounced dead.
The female driver of the second vehicle, also in her 60s, was seriously injured and taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Wednesday, 9th July, to come forward.
