The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport will meet today, Wednesday 11th June, to address the growing delays in driving tests and National Car Tests (NCTs) across the country.

Senior representatives from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) are set to appear before members.

Among those attending are:

  • Mr. Sam Waide, CEO of the RSA

  • Ms. Alison Coleman, Director of People Development and Culture

  • Mr. Brendan Walsh, Chief Operations Officer

Committee Chair Deputy Michael Murphy TD said the meeting is a key opportunity to examine the RSA’s recently launched Action Plan to reduce waiting times for driving tests.

“The RSA aims to cut the average wait time from 27 weeks to just 10 weeks by early September 2025. This is a response to unprecedented demand, with over 100,000 people currently in the backlog,” Deputy Murphy said.

The Committee is expected to question RSA officials on the concrete steps being taken to meet that target and how progress is being monitored.
