Shelter Issues Plea After Dog Left Behind In Dublin Airport

Izzy, a German shepherd, has been in the care of Dublin County Dog Shelter since Saturday.

“On arrival she [Izzy] was wearing a harness and collar with a tag displaying a UK number attached. We checked her chip and she was registered to an address in the UK, with a matching phone number to her tag.” the shelter said in a post made to their Facebook page earlier this week.

“Numerous attempts to contact the number were unsuccessful and the phone just rang out”

Izzy was spotted by airport staff locked inside a parked car. Airport Police and Gardaí were called and worked together to free the dog from the vehicle.

“We are hoping there is a reasonable explanation for this, however right now it appears that she has been left behind,” the shelter wrote. “We don't know the circumstances so we are pleading, if you know or are Izzy's owner, please get in contact with us to let us know what happened.”

There is currently no signs that Izzy was abused or mistreated by her owners. The shelter described her as “a very friendly girl, good with other dogs and is toilet trained. She is in good condition too so it appears she was well looked after.”

Although, Dublin County Dog Shelter are hoping to reunite Izzy with her owners, if they do not come forward, she will be available for adoption once completing her “stray days”.

“If you would like to apply to adopt Izzy once her stray days are up, please contact us on 087 391 4008, WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram.” the post concludes.
