Today will likely be one of the warmest April days on record, Met Éireann has said.
Met Éireann meteorologist Aoife Kealy said the hottest April was recorded in Donegal in 1984, and it was 25.8C.
"That's the only time a temperature above 25C was ever recorded in Ireland in April. Even if we don't hit that 25.8C mark it is likely that we are going to see one of the warmest April days today."
Ms Kealy added that it is set to be the warmest day of the year so far, with the warmest temperatures across the West and West Midlands.
A South Easterly airflow will moderate temperatures to the East, she said, but most areas are likely to hit or get above 20C
They also expect today to be the hottest day of 2025 so far.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather reckons we could come close to that again over the next few hours, noting; “A lovely day ahead with lots of warm sunshine, temperatures getting above 20, 21 or even 22 degrees for many areas, they could get as high as 24 degrees in a few local spots or maybe even get close to the 25 degrees mark”.
