Three people have been killed and at least others wounded, including a toddler, after a gunfight in Seattle last night, according to police.
Seattle police said one suspect was in custody while officers continued to search for a second following the incident at the Bite of Seattle food festival in the northwestern US city's popular tourist district.
According to RTE, assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis said that shots were heard around 6pm (2am Irish Time) "there were two people who we believe were shooting at each other."
Both weapons have been confirmed to be recovered. Davis stated that there is currently no threat to the community.
In a recent statement, Mayor Katie Wilson said that the shooting was "an act of horrific violence."
"Our attention belongs to the people whose lives were taken, those fighting to recover, and the families beside them," Wilson said.
She also thanked the Seattle police officers who responded to the scene and brought the suspect into custody.
Four patients were being treated at the trauma centre at Harborview Medical Center, spokesperson Susan Gregg said via RTE. The patients included a child, a woman of unknown age who was undergoing surgery, a 23-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.
One of the victims later died from their injuries, Davis said, without identifying the deceased.
A fifth victim later arrived at the University of Washington Medical Center with a gunshot wound, according to Davis.
Those who remained in hospital, including the toddler, were in a stable condition, he added.
