Two Children Airlifted Following Serious Westport Road Collision

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a serious two-car collision in Co Mayo that left two children with significant injuries.

The crash occurred on the N59 at Clooneen, near Westport, at approximately 7.20pm on Wednesday evening. The children, a boy and a girl who were travelling as passengers in one of the vehicles, were airlifted to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin for treatment.

The driver of the same car, a man aged in his 30s, was also airlifted to University Hospital Galway. His injuries are understood to be non-life threatening.

The second vehicle involved was occupied by a single driver, who was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigating gardaí are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was travelling on the N59 in the area around the time of the incident.

Road users with dash-cam or other camera footage recorded between 7pm and 7.30pm are being urged to provide it to investigators.
