Ireland is set for a warm week ahead, with temperatures climbing steadily and expected to peak at around 23°C on Friday. Conditions will remain mild into the weekend, with daytime highs staying in the low twenties.

However, some unsettled weather may develop by Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of heavy showers at times.

According to Met Éireann forecaster Mark Bowe, the generally dry and fine weather this week is being driven by the position of the jet stream, which is currently lying just north of the country. This pattern is allowing a high-pressure system to sit to the south, drawing in warm air from Europe.

“That’s basically why it’s been hot and sticky at night,” Bowe explained. He noted that the jet stream will help usher in very warm air by Friday, but warned that this same system could also lead to more unstable conditions over the weekend.

Today’s temperatures are expected to reach between 19°C and 21°C, with highs of up to 22°C forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. While the outlook for the weekend remains uncertain, forecasters are monitoring the potential for rain.
