'A Nightmare On Elm Street' reboot has been confirmed.
It has been revealed that Paramount Pictures have made a deal with the original movie’s director estate to make a reboot of the 1984 horror film.
The original terrifying horror film of an extremely burned child killer comes back from the dead to murder teenagers in their dreams achieved incredible success. The film went on to be quoted in the Simpsons, Robot Chicken, and Ready Player One. Robert Englund’s portrayal of Krueger became iconic and had its own spin-off series titled Freddy’s Nightmares.
The original director, Wes Craven, created nine films starring the terrifyingly iconic Krueger. The 2010 reboot saw Jackie Earle Haley take on the role as Krueger, and reports have revealed that Craven wasn't consulted during the making of this film. He later died in 2015 and his widow, Iya Labunka and son, Jonathan Craven regained the rights to the film in 2019.
The brand new film will be released by Paramount Pictures and will follow the original screenplay. Details of cast and crew are yet to be announced.
Paramount Pictures will release the film under the new genre label, Paramount Primal. Their new genre is being led by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, who are known for producing the film 'Companion'.
“Jonathan and I are so excited to be partnering with J.D. and Rafi along with the terrific team they’ve assembled at Paramount Primal," Labunka said in a statement revealed by Variety.
“We look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven’s ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ to a new and completely engaged generation of fans. We know that Wes would have been thrilled to see how horror is taking its long overdue place in the cultural canon. We can’t wait for all of us to sit together in a dark theater — around the campfire of today — as the next chapter of the ‘Nightmare’ story unfolds," she continued.
