BBC To Celebrate Career Of George Michael

The wonderful music career of George Michael is to be celebrated this Summer on the BBC.

Alongside his school friend Andrew Ridgeley, George Michael co founded 1980s pop group Wham!, and became one of Britain's best loved music stars of all time. He sadly passed away in December 2016.

To mark the 40th anniversary of Wham's debut album Fantastic, and what would have been George Michael's 60th birthday, the BBC will host a series of events to celebrate.

On June 10, BBC Sounds will broadcast George Michael and Wham! Collection. Melanie C will also look back at George Michael's Older album to mark it's 25th anniversary, include contributions from James Blunt, Russel T Davies, Ed Sheeran, Bananarama, and former Wham! backing singer Shirlie Kemp

A week later on June 17, a series of interviews which explore how George achieved his success as one half of Wham! will be shown via BBC Radio. Listeners can also tune into a favourite Top 30 countdown of George Michael songs.

The following day will show Steps' Clare Richards, Westlife's Mark Feehily, Kim Wilde and Holly Johnson also speak about their favourite Wham! memories. The show will also include chats with B*Witched's Sinead O'Carroll and Lindsey Armaou, as well as Matt Goss, Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud and former X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

Fans will be also able to check out George Michael – Live at Earl’s Court (10.40pm), filmed at his final two concerts at London’s Earls Court. These shows took place in front of 40,000 fans in August 2008 and also included both Wham! and George Michael classics and covers.
