Coldplay frontman Chris Martin surprised a couple on their wedding day, serenading them during their first dance in an unforgettable moment that has since captured hearts online.
The surprise took place on Saturday at Blithfield Lakeside Barns in Rugeley, Staffordshire, with the singer sneaking in incognito to perform All My Love, a track from 2024’s Moon Music.
The appearance came after the groom’s mother had contacted the band in the hope of receiving a simple video message wishing the couple luck ahead of their ceremony. Instead, Coldplay’s team reportedly replied, “We can do one better,” and quietly arranged to appear in person on the day.
Footage shared from the evening shows Martin slipping into the venue wearing jeans and a beanie before sitting at the piano and playing the song in full as the newlyweds shared their first dance. At the end of the performance, he congratulated the couple, told guests “See you later”, and quickly departed, leaving stunned guests behind.

Coldplay, formed in London in 1997, are one of the most successful bands of the modern era, with albums such as A Rush of Blood to the Head, Viva la Vida and Music of the Spheres earning global acclaim. Fronted by Martin, the band are known not only for their stadium-filling tours but also for moments of intimacy and generosity with fans, often inviting audience members on stage or performing surprise songs during shows.
This is not the first time a major artist has surprised couples on their wedding day. One of the most famous examples came 11 years ago, when Maroon 5 crashed multiple weddings while filming the video for their hit song Sugar. The pop-rock group, led by Adam Levine, secretly filmed footage of real weddings across Los Angeles in late 2014, later releasing the video in 2015.
“Dec. 6, 2014, we’re gonna drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can and it’s gonna be awesome,” Levine says in the opening of the video, which was directed by David Dobkin, best known for helming the 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers. Brides, grooms, guests and even a cook were shown reacting in shock as the band burst into celebrations mid-reception.
Ed Sheeran has also become known for wedding surprises, having appeared unannounced at ceremonies in the UK, Ireland and the US over the years. The singer famously performed Thinking Out Loud and Perfect at weddings after being contacted by friends or family members of the couples, often keeping his appearances completely secret until the moment he walked in.
For fans, moments like these underline why artists such as Chris Martin remain so beloved. While Coldplay continue to headline major festivals and world tours, it’s these small, deeply personal gestures — a piano, a song, and a once-in-a-lifetime memory — that often resonate the most.
