Reports have suggested that David Beckham is to receive a Knighthood at the King's Birthday Honours.
The former England captain, who was previously awarded an OBE in 2003, is set to be named on the list which is to be released next week, according to reports in The Sun.
Backham who has enjoyed a stellar career in football, earned 115 caps for England, playing in three World Cups, and won domestic trophies in England and Spain in his career.
He has been in the running for a Knighthood for over a decade, having been also renowned for his extensive charity work, as well as being an ambassador for Unicef.
Previously, a red flag was placed on his nomination by HM Revenue and Customs, following his alleged involvement in a tax avoidance scheme.
Should he feature on the list, Beckham who turned 50 this year, will take on the title of Sir, with his wife Victoria to be given the title of Lady Beckham. Posh was previously awarded an OBE for services to the fashion industry.
Footage which was posted by The Sun shows King Charles asking Beckham if he “received his 50th birthday present”, during a conversation at the Chelsea Flower Show last month.
The King was then heard saying to the former Man United player, “I’m glad it got to you”, with Beckham replying: “It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind”.
The Queen was then heard telling Beckham: “I’m glad you got the roses".
Speaking on these reports, a spokesperson for No 10 said: “It is our longstanding position that we don’t comment on honours, regardless of speculation".
