Ellie Goulding has revealed a surprise collaboration with Matt Bellamy of Muse, confirming that the two artists have recorded a track together as she works on her upcoming sixth studio album.

In a recent interview on America’s Dance 30, Goulding explained how the unexpected partnership happened by chance while she was recording her electronic single “Save My Love” with Avaion and Marshmello in a London studio. “We were all just messing around … It was funny, Matt Bellamy from Muse was in the next room recording something, which I then got involved in,” she said. The singer laughed as she added, “I never thought I could say I have a song with Matt Bellamy from Muse, but now I can say that.”

While she didn’t share the title or release date of the song, Goulding hinted that it will form part of her new musical chapter. After several years of dance-heavy projects and major pop collaborations, she suggested that her next record could return to a sound more in line with her earlier work. She has reunited with Jim Eliot, who co-wrote her 2012 hit “Anything Could Happen”, and hinted that the upcoming album will be “more personal, more introspective.”

The collaboration with Bellamy, known for his distinctive guitar work and experimental production, could add a fresh rock edge to Goulding’s ethereal vocals and electronic style. It’s a pairing few would have predicted, but one that makes sense for an artist like Goulding, who has always been unafraid to blur genre lines. For Bellamy, stepping outside of Muse’s familiar framework offers a rare opportunity to explore a different kind of songwriting space alongside a major pop voice.

Goulding’s recent work has leaned toward upbeat and club-oriented sounds, but this upcoming release could strike a balance between that modern energy and the cinematic depth that defined her Halcyon era. Fans of both artists are already speculating about what the track might sound like — whether it will embrace Muse’s signature rock grandeur or blend seamlessly with Goulding’s atmospheric synth-pop.

As anticipation builds, the singer’s collaboration with Bellamy marks a bold and intriguing step in her evolving career. For an artist who has spent more than a decade reinventing her sound, it’s yet another reminder that Ellie Goulding remains one of pop’s most versatile voices — and this time, with a little help from one of rock’s most inventive minds.
