Fans across the world are sharing emotional tributes to Matthew Perry, the beloved actor best known for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, following a heartfelt post shared by the Matthew Perry Foundation and the official Friends social media account. The tributes come one year after his passing, with thousands of fans recalling their favourite scenes, jokes, and moments that made him one of television’s most unforgettable characters.

In the comments, many quoted Friends’ most poignant and memorable lines — moments that captured Chandler’s mix of humour, heart, and vulnerability.

One user, Hannah, revisited a powerful scene from the show’s later seasons, when Monica and Chandler were trying to become parents through adoption. She wrote: “When the day finally comes, I’ll learn to be a good dad. But my wife… she’s already there, she’s a mother without a baby.”

Esther recalled a lighter but equally touching moment early in the show, when Chandler and Phoebe share a spontaneous duet of Lionel Richie’s “Endless Love”, writing that it “perfectly captured his mix of awkwardness and warmth.”

Gabriela highlighted the very last line of the series — one of the most famous in television history — when Rachel suggests: “I think we should grab one last coffee.” and Chandler quips: “Sure. Where?”

Others celebrated Perry’s trademark sarcasm and impeccable timing. One fan remembered:
Ross: Someone at work ate my sandwich.
Chandler: What did the police say?

Another recalled:
Ross: I went to that tanning place your wife suggested.
Chandler: Was that place the sun?

And Natasha smiled at the quick-witted exchange:
Monica: Why is your family Scottish?
Chandler: Why is your family—Ross?!

Fans say it’s this perfect blend of dry humour and heart that made Chandler Bing, and Perry himself, so loved.

Offscreen, Matthew Perry’s story was one of extraordinary success, personal struggle, and ultimately redemption. Born in Massachusetts in 1969 and raised partly in Canada, Perry’s early life hinted at the charm and confidence that would later define him. After several small TV roles, he found worldwide fame in 1994 when Friends premiered, instantly becoming one of the show’s standout stars.

As Chandler Bing, Perry helped shape one of television’s most iconic ensembles. His quick wit and self-deprecating humour turned Chandler into a generational touchstone — the sarcastic friend everyone loved but also deeply related to. His chemistry with Courteney Cox as Monica was central to the show’s later seasons, giving audiences not just laughs, but some of the series’ most emotional storylines.

Outside Friends, Perry starred in a number of popular films, including The Whole Nine Yards alongside Bruce Willis, Fools Rush In with Salma Hayek, and 17 Again with Zac Efron. He also appeared in acclaimed TV dramas like The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, proving his range extended far beyond comedy.

Yet Perry was also open about his personal battles with addiction, which he later described as the defining challenge of his life. In his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he detailed his struggles and recovery journey with brutal honesty and compassion. The book became a bestseller and resonated deeply with fans who admired his willingness to turn pain into purpose.

In his later years, Perry dedicated much of his time to helping others. He transformed his former Malibu home into the Perry House, a sober-living facility for men, and frequently spoke about mental health and addiction awareness. The Matthew Perry Foundation, launched shortly after his death, continues his mission to support those battling substance use disorders.

“When I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned,” he once said. “I want helping people to be the first thing that’s mentioned. And I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that.”

As fans continue to share memories and quotes online, it’s clear that Perry’s wish has come true. His legacy lives on not only through Chandler Bing’s timeless humour, but through the kindness, empathy, and honesty he left behind.

Even in reruns, Matthew Perry continues to make people laugh — and, just as importantly, to feel less alone.
