Fans of Matthew Perry have shared their emotional reactions to the first trailer for the upcoming documentary about the Friends actor.
The documentary titled 'The One About Matthew Perry' will be available to watch on Netflix from October 27th, just a day before the third anniversary of the actors death.
The initial trailer dropped yesterday (September 29), pairing rare family photos and home videos with personal reflections from Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, along with close friends, former partners, and long-time collaborators.
It starts with Perry recounting his early obsession with making it big, contrasting that ambition with his rocket to stardom playing Chandler Bing on Friends in 1994 and his ultimate realization that fame couldn't cure his personal struggles.
The preview goes on to discuss Perry’s lifelong battle with addiction and his relentless efforts to achieve sobriety.
His sister reveals he spent $7 million attempting to recover, while close friends reflect on the profound isolation he felt even at the height of his fame.
The documentary is the first extensive interview Perry Bowick has done since her brothers death.
“It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life – to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler and not just as someone who struggled with addiction,” she said when the documentary series was first announced.
“Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved," she added.

Mary Robertson serves as the director on the documentary series, and has said that the aim was to show “the person behind the public figure."
Fans have shared their emotional reactions to the trailer in the comments with one saying "this is going to destroy me," and others stating that they will find it difficult to watch the series.
Perry starred in Friends for 10 season which ran from 1994-2004 and starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
Perry died at his Los Angeles home on 28 October 2023, aged 54. According to the medical examiner, the acute effects of ketamine were the primary cause of death, while drowning was identified as a contributing factor.
His former live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, admitted to obtaining and repeatedly administering ketamine to Perry, including the dose that proved fatal. He was subsequently sentenced to three years and five months in prison.
