Madame Tussauds London has unveiled its first wax figure of acclaimed actor Gillian Anderson OBE, celebrating a standout moment from her career on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet.

The waxwork — a project a year in the making — was created in close collaboration with the Sex Education and X-Files star. It features Anderson in her widely discussed “Vulva” dress, the custom Gabriela Hearst gown that generated international headlines for its bold embroidered detailing. The original corseted, floor-length gown has been donated to the attraction by the designer herself and is displayed alongside diamante jewellery, metallic Aquazzura platform heels and a matching bag.

Behind-the-scenes footage released by the attraction shows Anderson meeting her wax counterpart for the first time. Reflecting on the moment, she said: “When I got the call from Madame Tussauds to say they wanted to create a wax figure of me, I thought, really? Who would want to see a figure of me on a carpet rather than as a character?” She added that recreating the Golden Globes look ultimately felt meaningful: “The dress became a much bigger conversation than even I had anticipated… I think this dress represents empowerment for women, celebrating bodily autonomy and freedom from shame. I wanted to give people the chance to stand next to it and revel in the audacity of it.”

Anderson’s figure now stands in the attraction’s Awards Party zone, joining a lineup that includes Timothée Chalamet, Harry Styles, Zendaya, Bella Ramsey, Dwayne Johnson, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lil Nas X, and — debuting in 2025 — Lady Gaga.

Steve Blackburn, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, praised the addition, calling Anderson “the perfect modern-day icon.” He stated: “The team have poured their extraordinary skill into recreating every detail of her look and we can’t wait for guests to come face-to-face with this incredible, conversation-starting, statement dress that Gillian has kindly donated for her first-ever figure.”

The unveiling coincides with a busy period for Anderson, who is set to appear in Channel 4’s drama Trespasses and Netflix’s upcoming American Western The Abandons, premiering 4 December.
