Irish actors Fiona Shaw and Daryl McCormack have joined the cast of Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation. McCormack will star as Mr Bingley, and Shaw will portray Lady Catherine de Bourg.
They join the previously announced cast members Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman. Netflix has announced that Freya Mavor will play Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood will play Lydia Bennet, and Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery will play Mary and Kitty Bennet. Slow Horses star Jack Lowden will be starring as Mr Darcy in the upcoming series.
Production is now underway in the UK, the series was written by Dolly Alderton. The six part series is described as a "faithful, classic" adaptation of Jane Austens novel.
Screenwriter Alderton said in a statement, "Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy."
Netflix UK posted to Instagram providing fans with a sneak peek of the new series. They said "We know you have been yearning for a sneak peek. Pride and Prejudice is officially in production."
