James Corden and Ruth Jones have agreed a new deal to work on a new BBC show, following their Gavin & Stacey exploits.
The pair who have been lauded for the work on the BBC series, have reportedly signed a deal worth up to £8 million with Apple TV+, having had interest from other platforms, including BBC, Netflix and Amazon Prime, with Corden's association with Apple TV+ a possible reason for signing with them.
According to The Sun, "it made sense to go in this direction", given that the streaming service has purchased the rights for Corden's Carpool Karaoke. Filming for the show will begin in 2027, with the pair looking to seek a more international audience.
"As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny. They wanted to bring something full of heart and warmth back to screens; water cooler moments for all the family", the publication said. "Casting has yet to begin, but everyone involved so far is incredibly excited to get going".
While Jones and Corden will once again be writing this series, it is understood that this new show will have nothing to do with Gavin & Stacey. It will have a totally fresh format and new set of characters.
The pair had previously turned down a reported big money deal with Netflix for the Gavin & Stacey finale, which aired on Christmas Day, as they wanted to stay loyal to the BBC. Corden had previously thanked fans for their support following the finale. More on this here.
