Irish actress Jessie Buckley has received an Oscars nomination for her performance in the Chloe Zhao directed, Hamnet.
Buckley has been nominated in the Best Actress category, with Hamnet author Maggie O'Farrell and director Chloé Zhao also earning Academy Award nominations if their screenplay of O'Farrell's best selling novel of the same name.
Should she win, Buckley would become the first Irish woman to win Best Actress at the Oscars.
However, Jessie Buckley's Hamnet co star, Paul Mescal missed out on an Oscar's nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Elsewhere, Irish animated short, Retirement Plan and Irish animator Richard Baneham also received an Oscars nod for his work on Avatar: Fire and Ash. Baneham who is already a double Oscar winner for his work on Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, was nominated in the Visual Effects category for his latest work.
In other news, vampire thriller, Sinners broke the record for the all time Oscars' nominations, having received 16 Academy Award nominations, including a Best Director nod for Ryan Coogler, alongside Chloé Zhao.
This year's ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, hosted by Conan O'Brien on March 15. Find out more news via this link here.
News of this nomination comes weeks after Jessie Buckley scooped up the Golden Globe for Best Actress.
Accepting her award, Buckley paid tribute to director Zhao, author O'Farrell, as well as her co star Paul Mescal.
"It was such an extraordinary set to be part of because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived, and we had a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew, beside our British family", she said.
She also praised the "the incredible women I am honoured to stand beside in this category", Buckley continued: "I mean, Julia Roberts, you are, like, a hero to us all, thank you," she continued. "Jennifer (Lawrence), Renate (Reinsve), Eva (Victor), Tessa (Thompson) - God, I'd watch you anytime, anywhere. You blow my mind".
