Jessie Buckley landed the top prize, scooping up the Best Actress award at the Golden Globes for her role in Hamnet.

Buckley won the award, on a night when the film also won the Best Picture award.

Accepting the award, Buckley paid tribute to director Chloe Zhao, co star Paul Mescal, author Maggie O'Farrell whose novel inspired this movie, as well as the cast and crew, which looks at famous playwright William Shakespeare and wife Agnes, and how they grieve for their son Hamet, who died aged 11 in 1596.

"It was such an extraordinary set to be part of because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived, and we had a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew, beside our British family", Buckley said.

Hailing "the incredible women I am honoured to stand beside in this category", Buckley continued: "I mean, Julia Roberts, you are, like, a hero to us all, thank you," she continued. "Jennifer (Lawrence), Renate (Reinsve), Eva (Victor), Tessa (Thompson) - God, I'd watch you anytime, anywhere. You blow my mind".

"My husband, he's really been enjoying the free canapés and cocktails, so thank you so much for having us along!" she laughed.

"This is a real, real honour," Buckley concluded. "I love what I do, and I love being part of this industry. Thank you".

The ceremony, which took place at the Beverley Hilton in Los Angeles, was also a very successful one for Netflix hit, Adolescence, which won Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, while Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty also scooped up acting awards.

Buckley's co star Paul Mescal did miss out on the Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture category, with that accolade going to Stellen Skarsgard for his role in Sentimental Value.

Speaking of Mescal, the actor also revealed that he will do his own singing when he takes on the role of Paul McCartney in the Sam Mendes directed biopics, which are set to arrive in 2028. More on this story here.
