Kaley Cuoco has struck a powerful chord with viewers after a deeply emotional appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, where the actress opened up about one of the darkest periods of her life — a moment so raw and honest that it has since gone viral across social media.
The interview clip, widely shared on TikTok and Instagram, shows the Big Bang Theory star recounting how she hit rock bottom on what should have been one of the happiest days of her career: the premiere of the second season of The Flight Attendant. Beyond the studio audience, the moment resonated with countless viewers who recognised their own experiences of grief, depression and emotional survival in her words.
Cuoco, now 39, is best known globally for playing Penny on the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, a role that made her one of the highest-paid actresses on television. In recent years, she has earned critical acclaim for her darker, more complex work in The Flight Attendant, which also served as an executive producer credit and marked a major turning point in her career.
Speaking candidly to Drew Barrymore, Cuoco reflected on the collapse of her second marriage, to professional equestrian Karl Cook, and how the emotional fallout collided with a major professional milestone.
“This was a handful of years ago. I was going through my divorce. It was the premiere of the second season of flight attendant. And I woke up that morning.”
“I was so depressed and so sad I couln't even breathe. And I was just laying on the floor. I literally thought I was going to die.”
“It was like the worst morning of my life. But knowing the night was coming, was supposed to be the best night of my life. It's so crazy how those things can happen at the same time.”
Cuoco described being physically unable to move as her team arrived to prepare her for the red carpet.
“I was laying on the floor, my team came over and literally got me ready on the floor. I couldn't get up. I'm like, I can't go, I can't go anywhere.”
At the time, she said, the emotional weight of her divorce felt final and irreversible.
“I truly thought, I blew up my life, my life is over. I'm never getting married again, I'm never going to have kids. This is it.”
Cuoco has been married twice — first to tennis player Ryan Sweeting, and later to Karl Cook — both relationships ending in divorce. In the interview, she explained how that morning crystallised what true emotional collapse felt like.
“And I knew when I was laying on that floor, in my house, 'Oh my God, this is what they talk about. This is the lowest point I could get.'”
What followed, she said, was something she could never have predicted.
“And I met Tom 3 weeks later. I had prayed and I felt like my soul died.”
Cuoco is now in a relationship with actor Tom Pelphrey, best known for roles in Ozark and Love & Death, with whom she shares a daughter. Reflecting on how her mindset changed, she admitted she once believed her own declarations to be permanent.
“When I told a magazine at the time, 'I'm never getting married again' I believed that.”
“But then I met Tom.”
She ended the story with a message that many viewers have described as deeply reassuring.
“You know what guys, sometines you just change your mind and that's okay!”
“You probably didn't know I was laying on the floor before my premiere, ready to die. It was supposed to be the best night of my career and I saw my soul leave my body.”
“It still chockes me up cause I can remember it so clearly. It made me a whole new person but it takes a long time and a lot of forgiveness to figure that out.”
Since airing, the clip has been widely praised for its honesty, with fans applauding Cuoco for speaking openly about mental health, heartbreak and the uncomfortable reality that success and despair can coexist.
