Katy Perry has responded in her own tongue-in-cheek way to news of her former boyfriend Josh Groban’s engagement, posting a playful TikTok set to her own heartbreak anthem The One That Got Away.

In the video shared on Monday, the 41-year-old singer appears dressed in a white robe, holding a glass while pretending to process the engagement announcement of Groban and actress Natalie McQueen.

A news headline announcing the couple’s engagement is shown in the background as Perry stares at the camera in mock devastation, before raising a toast, spilling her drink and pretending to cry.

The clip is soundtracked by The One That Got Away, the 2010 track long rumoured to have been inspired by her brief relationship with Groban in 2009.

She captioned the post simply: “congrats”, followed by a champagne emoji.

The moment quickly reignited fan discussion around the song’s meaning, which Perry has previously linked to Groban herself.

During a past livestream, she referred to him as “the one that got away”, while Groban later responded during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, saying he was flattered but unsure about the connection.

“I listened to the lyrics of the song, and I’m like, ‘I never owned a Mustang. I don’t have a tattoo. Are you sure that’s about me?’” he joked.

Groban, now 45, announced his engagement to actress Natalie McQueen last month following a proposal at Disneyland.

He shared the news on Instagram, writing: “My best friend said yes! Sharing this life with you is my happiest place.”

The couple are believed to have been together since early 2023 and made their relationship public on Valentine’s Day that year.

Recently, Orlando Bloom sparked fresh headlines after being spotted leaving a Met Gala afterparty alongside a glamorous influencer who fans quickly pointed out bore a striking resemblance to his ex-fiancée Katy Perry.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 49, was photographed exiting Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's afterparty with American beauty influencer Meredith Duxbury, 27, following the annual fashion event.

The sighting comes months after Bloom’s reported split from longtime partner Katy Perry, with whom he shares five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.

The couple’s relationship has long been one of Hollywood’s most talked-about on-and-off romances. Bloom and Perry first met in 2016 at a Golden Globes afterparty, where their flirtation reportedly began over a dispute involving In-N-Out burgers.

They quickly became one of celebrity culture’s biggest couples, regularly appearing together on red carpets, holidaying around the world and sharing glimpses of their relationship on social media.

However, the pair briefly split in 2017, later releasing a joint statement confirming they were taking “respectful, loving space at this time.”

Despite the separation, they reunited less than a year later and appeared stronger than ever. In 2019, Bloom proposed to Perry on Valentine’s Day in a romantic helicopter proposal featuring a flower-shaped engagement ring reportedly worth millions.

The singer later described the proposal as both emotional and chaotic, revealing the helicopter emergency landing nearly derailed the moment entirely.

In 2020, the couple welcomed daughter Daisy Dove, with the announcement made through UNICEF, for whom both stars serve as goodwill ambassadors.

Over the years, Perry frequently spoke about the intense emotional work both she and Bloom put into their relationship. The singer previously admitted they often clashed because of their strong personalities but credited therapy and communication with helping them stay together.

Bloom, meanwhile, openly discussed the challenges of maintaining a relationship under constant public scrutiny. In multiple interviews, he described their dynamic as “fire, fire, fire” while also praising Perry’s ambition and work ethic.

Speculation about trouble in the relationship intensified last year after reports emerged that the pair had quietly drifted apart amid increasingly hectic schedules.

Bloom later fuelled further rumours when he admitted during an interview that he was “not ready” for marriage, despite their long engagement.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom confirmed they split in July 2025, after their nine-year, on-and-off relationship, choosing to focus on co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove. Their representatives confirmed they were "shifting their relationship" after months of stress.
