Kim Cattrall has revealed her all-time favourite line from Sex and the City — and it’s classic Samantha Jones.
Speaking to British Vogue at London Fashion Week, the 69-year-old actress looked back on her time playing the iconic, unapologetic PR executive who delivered some of television’s most memorable one-liners about dating and friendship.
Out of the dozens of zingers that became part of pop culture history, Cattrall said one cheeky quip stands above the rest.
“They don't call it a job for nothing,” she recalled with a laugh, adding, “That was very high on my list.”
The tongue-in-cheek line perfectly captured Samantha’s bold and fearless attitude — a character many fans still regard as the standout of the groundbreaking HBO series.
Cattrall, who appeared chic in a fur gilet at the Conner Ives AW26 show, also offered a surprising answer when asked what role she would most like to play next.
“I'm enjoying playing me. The older I get, the more I pick the characters that have my traits,” she said. “And I don't think that's because I'm lazy. I think because I'm very human.”
Despite Samantha’s enduring popularity, Cattrall has long insisted she would not return to the role following a bitter and very public feud with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw.
Tensions escalated in 2017 after plans for a third Sex and the City film collapsed. Parker later said on Awards Chatter that Cattrall had made demands the studio was unwilling to meet, while Cattrall maintained she had already declined participation.
“Now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’,” Cattrall told the Daily Mail at the time. “Specifically Sarah Jessica Parker… I think she could have been nicer.”
The rift deepened in 2018 following the death of Cattrall’s brother, when she publicly told Parker on Instagram: “You are not my friend.”
When the revival series And Just Like That... launched without Samantha as a central character, fans made clear the show felt incomplete. In 2023, Cattrall made a brief 60-second cameo in the season finale — reportedly earning $1 million — though she did not share scenes with Parker.
After the reboot was recently confirmed to end after three seasons, Cattrall posted a cryptic Instagram message reading, “It’s the end of a very long week,” reigniting speculation about lingering tensions.
For now, however, it’s Samantha’s unforgettable humour — and that perfectly delivered punchline — that remains front and centre in Cattrall’s legacy.
