DiCaprio has been in the spotlight since he was in his 20's after the huge success of The Titanic where he starred alongside Kate Winslet.
However, even though the actor has achieved a great deal of success, he would prefer to remain out of the spotlight.
In a recent interview with TIME, DiCaprio spoke about his struggles to balance being a widely known actor and his desires to maintain a private life. "It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,' he said, 'and still I’m not an expert. I think my simple philosophy is only get out there and do something when you have something to say, or you have something to show for it. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can," he said.
"I was like, "OK, how do I have a long career? Because I love what I do, and I feel like the best way to have a long career is to get out of people’s face," the Titanic star explained. This provides some reasoning as to why we never see DiCaprio's face when he is out and about.
According to the Daily Mail, DiCaprio started covering his face with a face mask in 2020 during the pandemic, and has continued to cover his face with different clothing items since then, his cap being the most popular.
DiCaprio's film, Titanic became an instant hit with critics when it was released in 1997. The film grossed nearly $2 billion during it's initial period of release, however it has passed this mark after being rereleased on several occassions.
