The complaints were in relation to Movie Night, which showed contestants on the show viewing footage of their partners being tempted  by newcomers, or being unfaithful.

This episode showed an angry Luca Bish accusing his partner Gemma Owen of flirting with newcomer Billy Brown, despite her repeatedly denying these claims.

The episode also showed a heated exchange between couple Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Culculoglu over her time at Casa Amor.

2,481 complaints were initially issued over alleged misogynistic behaviour on the part of the male contestants.

A further 427 complains were also made, relating to the Aftersun spin off show, regarding comments made about Ekin-Su's treatment of former contestant Jacques O'Neill.

According to Ofcom, these complaints  "were primarily concerned about his well-being, given his demeanour in the interview".

"We do not condone"

"Laura is the presenter of the show, and part of that role is to pose questions to the panel and discuss events in the villa", ITV said in repsonse to these complaints.

"We do not condone trolling against either our host or our islanders and any subsequent elevation of these comments", they continued.

"We had various measures in place to ensure Jacques's welfare was prioritised at all times ahead of and during his appearance on Aftersun".

"This included a full briefing with show producers to outline the show's content and likely questioning, a conversation with Laura before and after the show was recorded and chaperoning from both a welfare producer and a member of his family while he was in studio".

"Should an islander not wish to participate in the Aftersun recording, we would always respect that decision".

413 complaints had been issued regarding Monday's Love Island episode, accusing male contestants of bullying and misogynistic conduct.

The episode from July 15 was hit with 167 complaints over footage of Ekin-Su and George Tasker during Casa Amor, while July 12's episode of the show relating to Adam Collard's entry into the villa, and Jacques O'Neill's well being in the lead up to his departure, was hit with 129 complaints.
