Met Eireann Issue Weather Warning With Polar Conditions To Hit The Country

Met Eireann have issued a stark weather warning for Ireland, with bitter conditions tipped to hit the country this week.

Today (Tuesday 4 January) will see temperatures struggle to exceed 5C across Ireland. 

On top of this, a Status Yellow weather warning has been put in place, with low temperatures and ice to hit -3C "in many areas". This warning will be in place until 10am this morning. 

The warning read, "Tonight and Wednesday morning, widespread sharp frost with icy stretches and lowest temperatures of -3 degrees in many areas may lead to some travel disruption". 

The cold snap is set to stay for a while. 

Maximum temperatures are set for 7C, with Met Eireann stating that things are to get "windier early on Wednesday night. Rain will spread from the west overnight to all areas, briefly falling as sleet on higher ground. Cold with frost forming early in the night over the eastern half of the country, in lows of -3 to +2 degrees".
