The sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic is to begin filming later this year.
According reports from Variety, Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate's motion picture chief, is hopeful that the studio can begin production to the sequel of this biopic later this year or early 2027, with a view to releasing a movie at the end of next year or in the first half of 2028.
The first film, 'Michael', saw the late King of Pop portrayed by his nephew, Jafaar Jackson, following the beginning of Jackson's career, including his role in the Jackson 5, to the 'Bad' World Tour in the late 1980s.
Speaking about the sequel, Fogelson said: “We have a number of sequences, particularly some big musical sequences, that were shot previously, that are almost sure to be incorporated".
He added: “We are mostly focused right now on how to make sure we can deliver, at the right price, the biggest, best sequel. That is what the audience is going to want and deserve after the experience we gave them the first time". (Quotes according to Variety).
Back in April, Jafaar Jackson's performance as Michael in the biopic was praised by his aunt, Janet Jackson, despite reports the there was friction between the siblings after the screening. More on this here.
