Netflix have agreed a deal to stream Sesame Street to it's wider audience after US President Donald Trump cut federal funding for free to air TV network, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
It was confirmed that new episodes of the popular children's show will be shown on Netflix, as well as PBS, and the PBS Kids app that same day. Select past episodes will be shown on Netflix worldwide. A release date was not confirmed at the time of writing.
A year ago, Warner Bros Discovery had opted not to renew its deal to show new episodes on HBO and Max. However, episodes will continue to be shown there until 2027.
Last month, Donald Trump signed an Executive Order, blocking federal funding to PBS and the National Public Radio, alleging that the coverage is biased.
Looking ahead to the new season, Netflix have said that the episodes will revolve around one 11 minute story. This will include more exploration of the Sesame Street Neighbourhood, as well as looking inside the 123 Sesame Street, which hosts Elmo, Bert and Ernie among others.
"We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship", Sesame Street said.
"The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder".

In a statement, Sesame Street added: "This unique public-private partnership will enable us to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix's global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the US continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love".
Sesame Street which is going into its 56th season, has won over 200 Emmy Awards, as well as numerous Peabody Awards. The show also won the Kennedy Centre Honour for lifetime artistic achievement.
