Irish actress Nicola Coughlan and British star Aimee Lou Wood have been announced as upcoming hosts for the UK edition of Saturday Night Live (SNL UK), with both set to front separate episodes of the new comedy series in the coming weeks.
Coughlan will take on hosting duties on 25 April, where she will be joined by rock band Foo Fighters as the musical guest. Lou Wood will follow a week later, hosting the episode on 2 May alongside British rising artist Meek, whose real name is Georgia Meek.
Each episode of the 75-minute live sketch show will feature a monologue from the host, as well as a range of comedy sketches performed alongside the programme’s regular cast. The show continues the format established in the US version of Saturday Night Live, combining guest hosts, musical performances and recurring comedic segments.
Coughlan, who was born in Galway, is widely recognised for her role as Clare Devlin in the hit Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls, as well as her portrayal of Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton. Her upcoming appearance marks another high-profile moment in her career, as she takes centre stage on the UK adaptation of the iconic sketch show.
Her episode will also feature Foo Fighters, the Grammy-winning rock band who have a long history with Saturday Night Live, having appeared multiple times on the US edition of the programme.
Aimee Lou Wood, meanwhile, is known for her performances in Sex Education and The White Lotus, and is also set to appear in Sam Mendes’ forthcoming Beatles biopic project. She will host the show on 2 May, bringing her own blend of comedy and dramatic experience to the stage.
She will be joined musically by Meek, an emerging singer-songwriter gaining attention on the UK music scene.
SNL UK launched on 21 March with a debut episode hosted by Tina Fey, who previously served as a head writer and cast member on the original US series. Since then, the show has featured a rotating lineup of high-profile hosts including Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed and Jack Whitehall.
Broadcast live from London, the series features a regular cast including Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye and Larry Dean, and airs on Sky and NOW TV.
