Pierce Brosnan has responded to criticism over his Irish accent in the TV series, Mobland.
The series, which is streamed via Paramount+, sees Brosnan star as crime boss Conrad Harrigan, whose family are at war with the Stevenson family in London.
However, despite being born in Drogheda, and raised in Navan, Pierce Brosnan has been criticised over his Irish accent in the show, with the Irish Independent claiming that Brosnan's voice as Conrad was "all over the shop and a huge distraction".
Responding to this backlash, the former James Bond actor insisted that his own voice is "very soft".
"My own accent is very soft. Conrad's accent is a million miles away from me", the actor told Radio Times.
Brosnan also revealed that the inspiration for this accent was a man suggested to him by his dialect coach.
"I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man and I googled the guy and that was it", he explained. "It was a Kerry accent and so I just gave it full tilt".
Elsewhere, Pierce Brosnan who had previously starred in Mamma Mia! (2008), also opened up about feeling a mix of worry and excitement, when it comes to taking on new acting roles.
"Every job is a challenge and it all comes with a thump of anxiety, because you have to do something", Brosnan said. "What are you doing on the stage? Why are you there? So that's constant. You live with that. You live with that stress all the time, and that's what's so exhilarating".
"That's what makes you alive", he added.
Pierce Brosnan had starred as 007 Agent James Bond between 1995 and 2002, starring in four films in that time, including GoldenEye in 1995, Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997, The World Is Not Enough in 1999, before finishing with Die Another Day in 2002.
As well as Mamma Mia!, Brosnan has also starred in Mars Attacks! (1996), and Mrs Doubtfire (1994).
