R Kelly was rushed to hospital after prison officials gave him an overdose of medication, according to his legal team.

The disgraced singer's lawyers have claimed that this is part of an ongoing assassination plot against their client, who is currently serving time for sex trafficking and racketeering at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, North California.

He was found guilty of these charges in 2021, before being found guilty on three charges of producing child sexual abuse images, as well as three charges of enticement of minors for sex.

Last Friday, R Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was taken to hospital after prison staff had "administered an overdose of his medication", according to a court document filed by his legal representatives.

"Mr. Kelly's life is in danger, and that danger is coming from Bureau of Prisons officials and their actions", the documents said. "Mr. Kelly needs this Court's intervention. His life actually depends on it".

His lawyer, Nicole Blank Becker, has said that R Kelly is in solitary confinement after speaking with him on Monday.

"What is happening right now with him is insane," she explained. "I hope that this really results in someone, somewhere, somehow getting ahold of him today and getting him back in the hospital".

Prisons Face Allegations

Elsewhere, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement that "for privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including medical and health-related issues".

They added: "Additionally, the Bureau of Prisons does not comment on pending litigation or matters that are the subject of legal proceedings".

R Kelly's lawyers have made further allegations against the Bureau of Prisons, including instructing another inmate to kill their client.

The singer's legal team claimed that one inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, an alleged member of the Aryan Brotherhood gang, and has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, was offered the chance to "to live out the last of those months as a free man" in exchange for killing the singer.

They later filed a motion stating that he had been moved to solitary confinement, and denied access to his lawyer.

Calling these claims "repugnant", prosecutors said in response: "Kelly has never taken responsibility for his years of sexually abusing children, and he probably never will".

"Undeterred, Kelly now asks this Court to release him from incarceration indefinitely under the guise of a fanciful conspiracy".
