Ryan Tubridy has repaid RTÉ a total sum of €150,000 that he received amid the controversial payment deal made in 2020, the organisation have confirmed.
The former Late Late Show host left the organisation amid weeks of controversy regarding RTÉ's under-reporting payments to him.
Releasing a statement, RTÉ confirmed that they received this payment from Tubridy.
"RTÉ welcomes the payment and would like to thank Ryan Tubridy for making it," it said.
Earlier to day a statement was issued on behalf of Mr Tubridy, where he said: "Earlier today I made a payment of 150,000 euro to RTE".
"I made this payment through my solicitor, without any discussions with RTÉ - or with anyone acting on their behalf - and without condition", the statement added. "I have said on various occasions that I intended making this payment and I’m happy to have been able to do so today".
However, Alan Kelly, chair of the Oireachtas media committee insisted that this payment by Mr Tubridy "does not bring an end to the issues in RTÉ".
While he welcomed his decision to "finally repay" the money, Mr Kelly stated that issues still remain regarding RTÉ's "governance" and "transparency".
