Sharon Stone has revealed that she talks to spirits and embraces what she calls “universal consciousness” as part of an evolving artistic practice that now sits alongside her long-established acting career.

The Hollywood icon, best known for her work on screen, said she has been on a deeply personal “artistic journey” that moves between acting and painting. While she continues to appear in film and television, she explained that visual art has become an increasingly important outlet for expression, particularly following a period of profound loss in her personal life.

Speaking to Extra, Stone described how the deaths of close family members have shaped both her worldview and her creative process. “I think this channel really opened because so many of my members of my family died and they died really rapidly in these last maybe three and a half years.” She said the experience altered her sense of connection to others and to something beyond the physical world. “I genuinely hear this higher consciousness speak to me. When these portraits started coming through, they really talked to me.”

According to Stone, this sense of spiritual communication feeds directly into her artwork, particularly portraiture. She suggested that the act of painting is less about technical control and more about allowing an image to emerge through openness and intuition. “I think it's really special when they people… when they allowed me to see their soul…” she said, before expanding on the philosophy underpinning her work. “Because I believe in universal consciousness, I do believe that someone has allowed me into their consciousness so that I could paint this portrait of someone that I don't know. I feel so blessed.”

Now in her mid-60s, Stone is one of the most recognisable figures in modern cinema. She rose to global fame in the early 1990s, becoming a defining screen presence of that era thanks to her fearless performances and commanding on-screen persona. Her career has spanned blockbusters, independent films and television, and she has remained a cultural touchstone for decades, frequently cited for both her talent and resilience within an industry known for its volatility.

Beyond acting, Stone has increasingly spoken about creativity as a means of survival and healing. Painting, she has said in past interviews, offers a different kind of freedom to filmmaking, allowing her to work alone and respond directly to emotion rather than scripts, schedules or collaboration. Her artwork has been exhibited publicly, attracting attention not only because of her fame but also because of its intensely personal themes.

The recent losses she referenced appear to have deepened this approach, pushing her towards questions of mortality, memory and connection. While her comments about speaking to spirits may strike some as unconventional, they align with a broader trend among artists who describe creativity as something that flows through them rather than something they consciously control.

For Stone, the idea of “universal consciousness” provides a framework for understanding both grief and inspiration. Rather than seeing her art as purely autobiographical, she frames it as a shared experience, one in which she briefly accesses something larger than herself in order to create. That perspective, she suggests, is what allows her to paint people she has never met with a sense of intimacy and depth.

As she continues to balance acting with visual art, Sharon Stone appears less interested in traditional career definitions and more focused on authenticity. Whether on screen or canvas, her latest reflections underline a career still in motion, shaped as much by personal transformation as by professional success.
