Well, well, well — it seems the glittering world of Dancing with the Stars Ireland has just lost its most dazzling fixture. Loraine Barry, the head judge who’s been a fixture on the show since its debut in 2017, has announced she’s stepping away after eight seasons.

In a heartfelt and open message shared on Instagram, Barry revealed: "After eight wonderful seasons, I have decided it's the right time for me to stand down from my role as head judge on Dancing with the Stars Ireland. It has been an incredible journey filled with cherished memories, laughter, and growth. I am deeply grateful to the entire team, the contestants, and the viewers who have supported me along the way. This decision comes after a challenging year, during which I experienced personal losses that have given me a new perspective on life and priorities. I look forward to exploring new adventures and opportunities in the future."

Tributes poured in from her colleagues, with fellow judge Arthur Gourounlian praising her strength and grace: “Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for every memory, every laugh, every chat… Wishing you nothing but joy, love, and success in every new adventure ahead.” Host Doireann Garrihy called her “a legend and a lady,” while presenter James Patrice added, “She was the most wonderful, beautiful lady… she will be so, so missed. Enjoy the next chapter xx.”

Barry’s departure marks the end of an era for the Irish edition of DWTS. Known affectionately as the “Pele of dance,” she has helped shape the show into a prime-time staple, guiding contestants and inspiring viewers alike. With homes in Florida and London, and professional commitments in Asia, she plans to spend more time abroad.

As the search for her successor begins, fans and colleagues alike are left wondering who can match her combination of expertise, elegance, and cheeky charm. One thing’s for certain: the ballroom won’t sparkle quite the same without Loraine Barry.
