Shonda Rhimes is expanding the Bridgerton universe, with Netflix confirming a new limited series exploring the early life and love story of Lady Violet Bridgerton.
The upcoming spinoff will follow a young Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the man she eventually marries and the father of her eight children.

Ruth Gemmell plays Violet in the original series, while Rupert Evans has portrayed Edmund.
However, Netflix has yet to confirm whether either actor, or the younger actors previously seen in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will return for the new series. No release date has been announced.
The project will be written, run and executive produced by Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, with Tom Verica directing. It follows the success of Queen Charlotte, which explored the early romance between Queen Charlotte and King George III.
The announcement comes as Bridgerton season five is in production in London. The upcoming season will focus on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza.
The fourth season, released in 2026, followed Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) as they navigated their romance across London's class divide.
The main series has also been renewed for a sixth season, which will focus on Eloise Bridgerton, played by Claudia Jessie.

The franchise also has an Irish connection through Galway-born actress Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington. She took centre stage in season three alongside Luke Newton's Colin Bridgerton and returned for season four.
The new Violet spinoff will offer fans a glimpse into the love story that helped shape the Bridgerton family, adding another chapter to one of Netflix's most successful dramas.
