The Office spin-off, 'The Paper' starring Domhnall Gleeson, is to air in September.
This was first reported by Variety, who said that an upfront presentation to advertisers had revealed that this spin off show would air on US streaming service, Peacock in September. A first image of star Domhnall Gleeson, was also shared, as well as the trailer.
This series is co created by Greg Daniels, who had developed The Office for American TV, based on the original Ricky Gervais creation.
Irish actor, Domhnall Gleeson will star as an idealistic new employee at the paper, with Sabrina Impacciatore will play the paper's managing editor. The only original cast member from The Office to feature as part of the cast us Oscar Nunez, who appears in the trailer as the office accountant. He also seems disappointed to see the crew he knew from the previous job.
“The documentary crew that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it”, a synopsis for the show read.
One original star who will not be returning, is Michael Scott, who was played by comedian Steve Carell.
“I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that", Carell said last year.
Praising the upcoming project, Carell added: “I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads; I did (2022 series) The Patient with him and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it’ll be great”.
The exact release date for this series has yet to be confirmed, aside from it taking place in September, as well as a network of air date in the UK.
