Author Emily Hourican admits how "appalling" her self doubt can be when starting a new book, adding, "that's why so many people start and don't finish."
The journalist-turned-author spoke to Ireland's Classic Hits Radio very own Trina Mara about her latest novel, A House in Winter and the reality of writing a book.
Set in January 1965, A House in Winter tells the story of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon's visit to his sister's home in Abbeyleix, Ireland. A trip that takes an unexpected turn when IRA petrol bomb attacks disrupt the visit, forcing them to endure 48 anxious hours without electricity.
Confined within the house and already facing difficulties in their marriage, Hourican imagines the tensions that may have existed between Princess Margaret and her husband during those tense days. Through the character of Cait, she also explores the lives of those beyond the estate walls, offering a glimpse into the challenges faced by ordinary people in the surrounding community.
